When exploring a place for designing and building a home, Farouk Seif considered many critical issues. These issues included common-land ownership other than the traditional subdivision of real estate, minimal impact on the environment, high sensitivity to the immediate surroundings, and unconventional construction materials.

His home on Orcas Island is a manifestation of a creative conceptualization process, an innovative strategy for construction materials and method, and a genuine desire for eco-sustainable living.

Images to the left reflect the design conceptualization of the Orcas home.

I really believe the essence
of livable communities
depends on the reciprocal
congruence between
humans and the natural
environment.
